The Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16613LN is one of the most recognizable two-tone sports watches from Rolex’s pre-ceramic era, combining a 40mm stainless-steel Oyster case with 18K yellow-gold accents, a black dial, and matching black aluminum dive bezel. The two-tone Oyster bracelet, yellow-gold bezel and center links, and classic black dial give the watch a strong balance of sport and luxury while retaining the slimmer proportions and aluminum-bezel character of the earlier Submariner generation. Rolex produced the Ref. 16613 from the late 1980s through the late 2000s, with the black version commonly identified as 16613LN.
This S562-serial example dates to approximately 1993, placing it in the early tritium era of the reference. The black dial features luminous hour markers with yellow-gold surrounds, Mercedes-style hands, center seconds, and a date window at 3 o’clock beneath the Cyclops magnifier. Powering the watch is the Rolex Calibre 3135, a self-winding chronometer movement with 31 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vph, quick-set date functionality, and approximately 48 hours of power reserve.
